Almond Milk Drink Review

Millennials of today approach wellness in a holistic view. Mostly, what they prefer are those that are produced organically and/or are GMO-free. This trend is also taking over drinks as more consumers want functional and healthy beverages.

But why beverages? Simply, because drinks, compared to solid food, are handy and are easily consumed. They come in practical containers, containing liquid that’s overloaded with nutrients, and these can be consumed at a gulp.

One particular drink that’s taking over health enthusiasts lately is almond milk. Almond milk is in fact the most popular plant milk in the United States, and is rich in healthy nutrients. Controlled studies have linked almond drinks to a variety of health benefits. Though it frequently contains added Vitamin D, calcium, and protein, almond milk is naturally rich in Vitamin E, can strengthen your bones, and reduce the risk of heart disease. Aside from that, compared to cow’s milk, the average almond milk contains only 39 calories, while cow’s milk contains 102 calories. Moreover, because it has no cholesterol, it is often recommended to lower blood-sugar levels and to treat constipation.

Almond milk has also got a pleasant, nutty flavor and creamy texture to it that's similar to regular milk. For this reason, it is a popular choice for vegans and those who are allergic or intolerant to dairy.

Commercial almond milk comes in a variety of brands and flavors. However, for this food review, we will be featuring two brands of almond milk, both in chocolate flavors— one from the brand called Pacific, and the other from Blue Diamond.

Pacific's Chocolate Almond Milk

Blue Diamond’s Chocolate Almond Milk

Let’s get started by comparing these two’s nutritional information.
Pacific’s Chocolate Almond Milk’s Nutrition Facts

Blue Diamond’s Chocolate Almond Milk’s Nutrition Facts

Both chocolate almond milks contain 240 mL, and both contain 100 calories, as well as 25 calories from fat. However, Pacific’s total fat amounted to 3 g, whereas Blue Diamond’s almond milk only amounted to 2.5 g. Both brands’ cholesterol and sodium amounted to 0 mg and 150 mg, respectively. As for potassium, Pacific’s almond milk contained only 150 mg, while Blue Diamond contained 230 mg. Both equaled in total carbohydrate, an amount of 19 g, and in protein, an amount of 1 g.

Moving on to their vitamin content, both contained 10% Vitamin A. As for their calcium, however, there’s a significant difference between both’s amount. Pacific almond milk contained only 2%, whereas Blue Diamond milk contained 45%.  Both contained the same amount of 25% Vitamin D.

In terms of taste, I would definitely recommend the Blue Diamond almond milk more, because the Pacific almond milk had too little flavor in it, while the Blue Diamond contained moderate sweetness.

Both almond milks were found and bought from Robinsons Magnolia's Healthy Options. The Pacific Chocolate Almond Milk cost 59 PHP, while the Blue Diamond cost 69 PHP. They are most likely to be available in other Healthy Options branches around Metro Manila as well.

In my opinion, I think that the better almond milk would be the chocolate almond milk from Blue Diamond. It had a savory taste, has more nutrients, and is priced only 10 pesos more than the Pacific almond milk.
