Reflection of Media and Information Literacy Practices
Reflection of Media and Information Literacy Practices
In
this technological age, it is almost imperative that one be literate in media
and information. The purpose of being media and information literate is for
anyone to be able to cooperate and participate in the digital world. It helps
us be able to engage with others in the virtual world, and get to connect with
others through technology. However, there are important media and information
literacy practices that must be maintained by any technology user so that there
is responsible creation of information, there is respectful engagement, and
there is maintained etiquette.
Some
of my media and information literacy practices are the following:
1. Practice respect
2. Protect your reputation
3. Protect your privacy
4. Be sensitive to how others might take
your posts
5. Recognize the laws related to the cyber world
6. Think before you click
By
practicing all these, I am able to manage my digital footprint; and I say this
because when I think before I click, protect my privacy and my reputation, as
well as recognize my rights as a cyber-user, I manage the trail of links that I
surf through, the emails that I send, and every other moves I make online. I
think that this creates a good impact because it practices responsibility and
respect of other users.
Among
the six practices, I can definitely say that I am a respectful cyber-user, I have
a good reputation online, I am sensitive to how others might take my posts, and
I think before I click. However, I should protect my privacy more so that it’s
limited to only close connections. Recognizing the laws and my rights related
to the cyber world would also help a lot if I get familiar with it.
I
can strengthen these digital literacy skills by maintaining them, as well as
practicing other skills that may help me become an even more digital user.
